Onward!
November 8th, 2010
With this election season over, we here at Vote Again2010 would like to express our gratitude to everyone who participated – from our partner organizations to our video contest entrants to all those who made their voices heard at the ballot box.
We were overwhelmed by the creativity and passion showcased in submissions to our video contest. These young voters embraced the opportunity to inspire others and we hope they will continue to do so for many elections to come. You can see for yourself by checking out the winning video and some of the finalists right here.
We also want you to know that the work started here does not end here. All of the Vote Again 2010 partners will keep working to engage young people in the political process and you can check out their sites for resources and opportunities to volunteer.
Once again, thank you for your participation. We’re a generation that’s quickly expanding and our power at the polls and in our communities is unquestionable.

The Winner of the Vote Again 2010 Video Contest…
November 1st, 2010
In their submission “Action 2010,” California College of the Arts film students Ted Hayden and Sunday Wang show a young voter on a symbolic journey toward mailing in her absentee ballot, passing by images that evoke the issues her vote will impact. In a surreal visual style, the video follows the protagonist through an open field as she faces characters representing issues like gay marriage, the economy, and war.
“We received so many great submissions for this contest and it was very hard to pick a winning video,” said filmmaker Jason Pollock, who judged the contest finalists. “We’re very proud of the content this contest produced. Young people were fired up in this mid-term election and the ‘Vote Again 2010’ campaign proved it.”
In addition to the winning submission, there were many more showcasing the creativity and civic engagement of young people across the country.
One runner-up video entitled “You Vote, I Vote,” featured a song about voting to the tune of Justin Bieber’s, “You Smile, I Smile.” Other finalists included a young voter who rallied his peers around passing legislation that would help facilitate peace in East Africa, a young voter making a clever comparison between voting and virginity, and a young voter honoring those who fought for voter enfranchisement throughout history.
Thanks to everyone who entered the contest and shared with us and your peers why you’re voting again in 2010. We’ll see you all at the polls tomorrow!

Cuéntame talks top issues with Latino voters
October 18th, 2010
Cuéntame, a project of the the Brave New Foundation, serves as a platform for the Latino community to tell their stories. Through clips, documentaries, and testimonial interviews, Cuéntame amplifies Latino voices. A new video by the campaign features interviews with Latino voters explaining what issues matter to them.
The video shows three women describing their top issues, which include education, immigration, animal rights, healthcare reform, and the right to vote. On education and immigration in particular, two of those interviewed relate how these issues have directly affected their families.
All three of those interviewed emphasize the importance of voting again in 2010, especially given just how easy it is to cast a ballot.
“Walk the walk,” one of the women says of voting. “Don’t just talk the talk.”

No Really, Why are you Voting Again?
September 30th, 2010
You might have noticed, over the last week everyone has been talking about the youth vote. We’ve always believed that there’s good reason to pay attention to young voters; we’re the largest demographic and youth turnout has been increasing for the last decade. Dozens of Vote Again 2010 partners are spending this week engaging young voters and you can always sign up to volunteer right here on the site, but we don’t want to just talk about you, we want to hear from you! In addition to submitting an entry to our video contest, you can also send your stories, thoughts and opinions to blog@voteagain2010.comto be featured on the site.
So tell us your story – what issues matter to you, what people are doing at your school to get involved, how you feel about the midterm elections – and we’ll feature it here.*
*Just be sure to keep it non-partisan – steer clear of talking about candidates and political parties.

Gaga Gets Political
September 23rd, 2010
Has Lady Gaga successfully made the transition from pop icon to a voice for her generation? Judging by a recent submission to our video contest, you could make the case. The same two girls inspired by Gaga to call up Colorado Senator Michael Bennet and ask him to vote against “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” are at it again. This time, they’re asking young people to vote again in 2010, and to do it for Gaga.
CNN’s Showbiz Tonight highlighted Lauren and Ellie’s “Do it for Gaga” video to show that the singer’s increasingly political voice is really resonating with young people, and Sara Haile-Mariam of Campus Progress went on the show to talk about why. As Sara put it, “It’s really incredible to see how celebrity and activism and the Internet are interacting in a way that makes young people more impactful.” Check out the Showbiz Tonight clip below and see Ellie and Lauren’s video on our contest page. Get inspired and submit a video today, whether it’s for Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, or yourself.

Why Are You Voting Again in 2010?
August 25th, 2010
By Sara Haile-Mariam, Campus Progress
Since 2000, young people have been hitting the polls in increasingly unprecedented numbers. Yes, since 2000. Despite what you may have heard, youth turnout wasn’t an unexpected consequence of one election cycle or the byproduct of one person, party or policy.
This year, before a single polling place has opened, the media has already dismissed young people as a legitimate voting cohort; we’re seen as unreliable, fickle and emotional.
Well, I think they’re wrong. I think we’re powerful.
Fundamentally, while members of Congress may have the power to vote for or against legislation — we have the power to vote for or against every one of them.
Why wouldn’t we vote again?
It’s that perspective that’s shaped the development of Vote Again 2010, a platform being orchestrated by over 30 youth organizations and media partners. Today, Vote Again 2010 announced our first major initiative, a user generated video contest that asks you why you’re voting again in 2010. Check out the promo video below explaining the contest featuring youtube celebrities Jason Pollock, Tay Zonday (of ‘Chocolate Rain’ Fame), Brittani Taylor, & Joey Anderton.
Three Vote Again partner organizations — the United States Student Association, the Bus Federation Civic Fund and HeadCount — have already submitted videos. Visit the site to check them out and submit your own.
Ultimately, this year we’re faced with a familiar choice: We can allow frustration to give way to discouragement, or worse, to silence. We can hear the shouting that masquerades as debate and decide that we want no part in it … or we can refuse allow our futures to be decided by media narratives and pundits.
We can march. We can organize. We can bring our creativity to the debate.
Most importantly, this Nov. 2, we can vote again.
